National Programme For Prevention and Control of Cancer, Diabetes, Cardiovascular Disease and Stroke (NPCDCS)

Activities under NPCDCS, UT Chandigarh

a. Capacity building and training :

  • Training program organized for health workers from 7th to 15 Dec.2014 : The National Programme for prevention and control of Cancer, Diabetes, Cardiovascular Diseases and Stroke (NPCDCS) under National Health Mission, U T - Chandigarh organized training program for all health workers i.e. ANMs, Male health workers and LHVs at GMSH-16, Chandigarh (U.T.) to sensitize them about risk factors associated with NCDs, warning signs and symptoms, early detection of Cancer, Diabetes, Hypertension, CVD’s & Stroke. Specialist from the field of Medicine, Surgery, ENT and Gynae. sensitized them regarding NCDs.

  • Training program for AYUSH Doctors 12th March 2015:  A training program was organized for AYUSH doctors as they also plays vital role in carrying out health promotional activities and early detection of NCDs. Experts from various field of Medicine, Surgery, ENT and Gynae sensitize them about risk factors associated with NCDs, warning signs and symptoms , early detection of Cancer, Diabetes, Hypertension, CVD’s & Stroke.

b. CME on Stroke for doctors, 30th May 2015 : A CME was organized in collaboration with Department of Community Medicine, GMCH-32 for doctors on Stroke and Advances in Stroke management at GMCH-32. Around 80 physicians from department. Of Medicine, radiology and emergency Medicine from GMCH-32, GMSH-16, PGIMER, Command hospital, Chandimandir and dispensaries under Chandigarh health department participated in CME on Stroke.

c. World Cancer day, 4th Feb. 2015:  National Programme for prevention & Control of Cancer, Diabetes, CVD’s and stroke (NPCDCS), National Health Mission, U.T. Chandigarh celebrated this day in collaboration with Dept. of Community of Medicine, GMCH-32. This day was used as an opportunity for creating Cancer Awareness among elderly. Various activities were carried out at Old Age Home, Sector-30. All inmates of Old Age home were sensitized regarding signs, Symptoms of Cancer, its treatment and management. There was an interactive session where inmates of old age home discussed about their medical problems. Mobile Mammography and Dexascan unit in collaboration with GMCH-32 visited this place to provide accessibility to facilities of mammography and bone density scan (Dexascan) for elderly of old age home at their doorstep as most of them are above the age of 60 years and unable to avail these services at the health facilities Medicines were also prescribed based on their reports.

d. World Stroke Day, 29th Oct.2015
To celebrate World Stroke Day, a Workshop had been organized for Nursing students of GMSH-16 at Civil Hospital -22 to sensitize them regarding Stroke, significance of its early detection, timely referral, management and rehabilitation. Poster competition on Stroke was also organized for nursing students to make them aware about importance of time management for Stroke patients. Approximately 40 nursing students participated in the workshop. Booklet on Stroke was also distributed to all nursing students. All trained health care providers also delivered health talks regarding Stroke to general community and sensitized them regarding timely detection, referral and management of patients of Stroke.

e. XIII Annual Conference of the Indian Academy of Geriatrics, 29th Oct.to 1st Nov.2015 : XIII Annual Conference of the Indian Academy of Geriatrics was held at Government Medical College and Hospital-32 from 30th Oct. to 1st Nov.2015 . NPCDCS,UT, Chandigarh Actively participated in this CME &Conference and facilitated several staff including Specialist, Physicians, Medical officers, DNB students and nursing staff of District hospital GMSH-16 and its allied dispensaries to attend this Conference. Approximately 20 health care providers attended this Conference.

f. Exhibition on Cancer awareness, 7th Nov. 2015: Exhibition cum screening camp was organized for general public in collaboration with Radiotherapy department, PGIMER at Civil Hospital-22 on 7th November, 2015. Various IEC materials in form of Posters, banners, pamphlets, leaflets were displayed and distributed to public at the Exhibition. Mobile Vans of PGIMER & Medical College with facility of Mammography, and Colposcopy unit visited the venue of Exhibition for screening high risk cases of breast and cervical cancer. Experts from PGIMER were available for consultation regarding Cancer, and explained general public regarding significance of its early detection, treatment and further management.

g. World Cancer Day- Cancer Awareness Exhibition- cum- Screening Camp -4th Feb.16 : National Programme for Prevention and Control of Cancer, Diabetes, CVDs and Strokes (NPCDCS) , NHM, U.T., Chandigarh organized an exhibition cum screening camp at GMSH-16, Chandigarh in collaboration with Radiotherapy & Radio diagnosis department, PGIMER on 4th Feb, 2016 . This day was used as an opportunity for creating awareness about Cancer, its signs and symptoms, timely detection and its management. Around thousands of peoples visited this Exhibition on Cancer Awareness. Mobile Mammography and Colposcopy unit of PGIMER with facility for screening Breast and Cervical cancer also visited the venue.Various IEC materials in form of Posters, Banners, Pamphlets, and Leaflets were displayed and distributed to public at the Exhibition.
